I woke up early yesterday morning - 8am... got in the silver sweetness, and drove my way to Fort Erie to pick Anna and Brian... the plan? to drive to Hamilton to Justin's house, watch episode 1, 2, go out and see 3.. then come back and watch 4, 5, and 6..
We watched episode 1 and 2... made the usual comments on how people didn't like them.. but something that we all appreciated that we didn't really remember was the quick pace of the first movie.. despite it's lack of on-screen action, the pace of the movie was in fact very swift... and I was actually entertained by it.. anyway, after the first two movies, we went to see the third...
right off the bat, this movie grabs you... and it doesn't let go.. And SO MUCH is explained! I finally understood what "being seduced" by the dark side meant. I mean, I always knew what it meant, but I never knew how one could be seduced... this movie explains it fully...
And they gave more background to "The Force"... how the dark side isn't "evil"... we learn that jedi use the force selflessly, wheras sith use the force selfishly out of passion. That's pretty much the only difference between a jedi and a sith... or so this movie explains.
::Episode ONE spoiler::
and what I think is the best part of the movie - they finally explain why Yoda and Obi-Wan in episode 4 and 6 disappear when the die - and Qui-Gon didn't disappear in episode 1 when he dies... It makes so much more sense this way...
One other thing that was awesome is that this movie made me love episode 1 and 2... People always tell me they were awful movies... and now I really dont know why. They always say the acting was awful - well I got news for ya, the acting in the original movies wasn't oscar worthy either... people also say that the stories sucked... well.. not if you look at all the movies as a whole... they will also say that episode 1 and 2 were too happy.. too bright.. too happy.. too cheery........... but they NEEDED to be that way in order to appreciate the complete darkness and destructive feeling of the third movie... the StarWars universe WAS perfect... it DID have silly humour by creatures like Jar Jar... thats the way the universe was!...until the Empire... it's not George Lucas' fault that you just happen to like the post-empire StarWars universe better than you liked the pre-Empire universe...
The only real beef I really had with episode 1 and 2 is the level of computer generated scenes.. I mean, 99% of episode 2 was CG!! we watched it yesterday, and there's one scene with anakin and pademe by the lake on Naboo... there was a potted plant with red flowers on the deck.... and it was computer generated!!! Oh come on, Lucas... a $12 potted plant...
anyway, that's my 2 cents... I realize it's kinda point formish.. there's no flow.. but this was a "reasons why I liked episode 3" thread.. so it was justified!
Until next time....... *fade to black*
