This was the article I was trying to find for my Music Downloading post...

Music Downloads: Pirates - or Customers?

It takes an interesting stance on just how "hard" the recording industry has it (boo hoo) and that even since the Napster boom back when I was in grade 10, they have actually *increased* profits off of record sales...

I hate penny pinchers... "Here's 10 million dollars a year for 20 years.... ok, now here's 20 million per year.. but of that 20 million, we're going to keep 5 million.. so you're really only getting a 5 million dollar increase."

That's why I absolutely love artists that do things like free concerts... Tom Cocharne is having one coming up.. And who can forget Garth Brooks' free concert in Central Park? One of the biggest outdoor events of all time - and it was totally free..

cheers to those who do it for the fun of it, and not just for the bottom line.

Until next time.......

In response to Silph's blog, he mentions how Canada will get the ball rolling on changing the laws of file sharing later next week.

If you read CTV's article about this, you'll find out that it's not going to be as harsh - at least not immediately, as you think it is.

File sharing in Canada has been brought to the courts 3 times, and each time copying a CD that you own has been proven legal (and rightfully so), ALSO downloading a copy of your friend's CD has been dubbed no more illegal than just photocopying a page out of a book in a library.

And also from that article:

"In a unanimous decision, the Federal Court of Appeal dismissed the Canadian Recording Industry Association's appeal to oblige Internet service providers to release the names and addresses of 29 people alleged to be trading music with Net surfers."

So one more point for the good guys!

So look at what we have here. 29 people out of our whole nation were targeted. You have to be a pretty MAJOR offender to get pegged by the CRIA... if you download yourself your favourite tunes, you'll be fine! relax... =)

Basically what that's saying is that if you're considered to be a major offender, then you're service provider is going to be contacted, and THEY will send you a written slap on the hand via a warning letter. They are NOT obligated (like they are in the states) to hand out your personal address... so GOD BLESS CANADA!!!

In honour of national spirit, I've taken it apon myself to revamp the national anthem....

Oh Canada,
Our home and native land...
You give me free music,
from my favourite band!

With pounding bass,
we see the prize
is to gain a free CD...

From far and wide,
Oh Canada,
Leech all you can from me!

God Keep our laws
the same as can be...
Oh Canada we download all for free....
OH CANADA WE DOWNLOAD ALLLLLL FORRRR FREEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Thank You.

Until next time.......

Song of choice: Karmastition - Alicia Keys

What? It's a catchy song! And Superstition is one of my favourite songs in the first place..

Anyway, it's been a while since I've put up a "what's going on inside the mind of kyle" post...

I've been thinking of starting up a podcast.

What is this "Podcast" thing I speak of?

Well basically the Podcast was originally developed for people with Ipods, as the name suggests, to download a whack of internet audio and save it to their ipod. They can be mock radio shows, talk shows, etc etc.. whatever - that's the best part.. think of it as a blog - only recorded, and anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour or more.. I'm really getting into this. One of the ones I'm listening to is TWIT (This Week In Tech). It's run by a bunch of guys that used to be on a tech tv show called The Screensavers. TechTV, the network that hosted the show, got bought out by G4 - a big videogame station... and they canned the staff of the show.. so the staff got together to produce this podcast where they just sit and talk for an hour or so about anything and everything tech...

So I'm thinking... Just me? No... Me and other people? you bet! I'd love to pick a topic and talk to people about a topic and post it up for people to listen to.. I think it'd be pretty cool..

Anyway, that's my thought on the Podcast... something else.. oh! I know.. I heard one of the bets quotes the other day... It comes from AMD - the major chip maker that competes with Intel... and that is that AMD is making "irreversible progress" in their quad core chips...

...

Irreversible progress? Am I missing something here? Am I the only one that thinks this phrase is funny? *sigh* oh well..

So work is going very well for me. It's freakin' crazy with the hours - for example.. starting tuesday night at 11pm - I am 8 hours on, 8 off, 8 on, 8 off, 8 on... that'll be hell i think... I need more than 8 hrs sleep! especially when I have no time for anything else.. *pout*

Speaking of sleep - I'm tired.. I got up fairly earlyish yesterday, and I've been working all night.. I just cant wait to go have a nap before I come back in at noon.. I lead a wonderful life, dont I?

so my rather unfortunate attempt at getting people together via the starwars concert died. Whether it be lack of money, or because they figured their money was better spent elsewhere, or just because they plain couldn't go (instead of deciding not to go) there wasn't enough interest.. No worries - I'll still have my BBQ this year that, I hope, you all will be able to come to.. you know the drill - cheap burgers, cheap dogs.... and $0.69 Mustard!! Ahhh Robbie - the memories... You can admit it - shopping with me rocked...

So my brother just celebrated his 30th birthday less than a week ago.. That's crazy!!! 30!! Man, that's like.. half way to 60.. when he turns 40 I'll be 32! *falls over*.... I think back to the people we (my brother, sister, and I) used to be.. and I look at us now, and I think "what the hell happened"?? We all grew up... Growing up is really nothing that you get used to - you sit and think you're still this young dependant... then you sit back, and realize that you're coming up 23 years old.. like - DAMN.... I aint no baby no more...

30 mins until my shift is over...
hold on - phone...
23 mins...
12 mins... ok, enough waiting.. I'm going to bed... 'nite all

Until next time.......

well guys, it looks like 2 days was too long to wait to buy the tickets - there are only single tickets available in the $25, $30, and $40 ticket ranges... the only group tickets available are in the $60+ range...

so is this an exercise in futility? or would u folks like to not sit together? lol I'm thinking we should just give up, unfortunately.. :(

Balcony Side - $30
Balcony Side Side - $25

so... LAST CALL!!!

I need to know by Thursday night... Friday at the latest (if you wanna sit together, that is....) James, I'm going to assume that you're back in, but I sent you a quick email just in case...

who else wants to go? Jess? Christa?

Until next time.......

Sorry for all the Star Wars related posts lately, but here comes another...

During our starwars marathon a couple weeks ago, Justin informed me of a blog online kept by Darth Vader. This really is a clever site. It's not official by any means, but it might as well be. It's Vader's inner ramblings, and most personal thoughts that take place during the original trilogy. I've read about half of the entries so far and I haven't really come across any real spoilers - just mostly speculation and general comments... take a read if you like over at The Darth Side.

Here is a snippit of The Darth Side, to give you an idea of it's theme.. This takes place during Return of the Jedi, Episode 6, right near the start of the movie...

Blasted Contractors!

Work is a disaster. The blind leading the blind leading the Force-choked.

Cracking the whip. Setting a new tone of efficacy around the Death Star.

Due to the haste with which we are proceding through the latter phases of this battle-station's construction we have been forced to employ scores of civilian contractors from across the galaxy in addition to our own Imperial Corps of Engineers. This had led to a certain clash of working cultures.

For instance, this morning I critiqued a tragically sub-par piece of workmanship on a tractor-beam repulsolift inversion assembly by snapping the neck of the site supervisor and throwing his limp corpse down a disused elevator shaft.

Imperial engineers would have snapped to crisp attention, of course, but all these civilian contractors did was give me was grief. "Oy, you do that again and I'll have the union on you!" barked one red-faced buffoon.

"It is vital that you enhance the inter-departmental syngergies of your operation," I said. And then I killed him.

On a more positive note the world-smashing superlaser seems to be working admirably, much to the relief of the stress-incontinent Moff Jerjerrod (and the relief of his cleaning service). The lower ranks now giggle when he enters the room, whispering about yesterday's chat in the landing hangar in which Jerjerrod greeted the news of Emperor Palpatine's imminent inspection by losing control of his bowels. Though no one let on at the time, you knew they had to be smelling it. It was certain they not be able to hold off on the jokes for long, since Fett's penchant for toilet humour is famous and every cloned trooper is a reflection of that spirit.

After destroying one of Endor's lesser moons I treated the men to a round of Corellian wine. Admiral Piett signalled from Executor that the moon has been completely incinerated, reducing the likelihood of damage from the kind of outflying debris we saw when we toasted Alderaan. The safety control officer was tickled pink.

Tomorrow I have elected to take a tour of the facilities on the forest moon below. My office is packing a picnic.

This is getting me through my night shift (which ends in 40 or so minutes)... remember, like any blog, start from the bottom and work your way up!

Until next time......

Song of choice: Dual of the Fates - John Williams

From The TSO:

"Erich Kunzel and members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra will take you to a musical galaxy far, far away for these world premiere performances of the most powerful music from all six Star Wars films, featuring Special Guest narrator Anthony Daniels, who has played C-3PO in all six films. The concert also features dramatic choruses from the films, performed by the Mississauga Choral Society."

So - who is gonna go with me? If you're coming from out of town, I'm sure u could crash at my house... It's on June 28th and June 29th... Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.. Tickets are $90, $80, $60, $40, $30, and $25...

Tickets are going on sale today (June 1st) at noon... Mix 99.9 is advertising this so chances are it'll be a faster sell out than other TSO shows...

I really wanna go to this so someone please come along! =)
If my pool is open by that point - I'll even offer it up as a bit of a bribe to get your arse here to go...

Until next time.......
