No word yet...

Kara, one of the students who work in the back office of the residence (closer to Todd's office) and i were just talking... I asked her if they had decided on anyone yet seeing as how Todd didn't call me on Friday.. she said no, not yet.

She went on to tell me about a guy who was interviewed who actually went back into the office on Friday to see Todd and ask him if anything has been decided.. Todd found this to be pretty over the top, and pretty much removed him from the running... so this is what i know so far as my chances:

- the work day is from 9-5.
- There were two days of interviews - Wed, and Thurs... not just Wed like i had originally thought.
- Nobody else but me was interviewed Wednesday afternoon.
- Only a couple of people were interviewed Thursday morning - 1 or 2..
- and only a couple of people were interviewed Wednesday morning... nobody Thursday afternoon..

so that leaves room for a half dozen or so... and with one of those individuals taken out of the running for being too pushy and going in to talk to Todd again on Friday.. my chances have just gotten that much better.....

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed though.. and keep all those thoughts and prayers coming in my direction.. i need you all now more than ever.... I *need* this in my life right now...

Until next time.......

Interview was yesterday, it went well.. As with any interview, i second guessed myself on how to make some of my answers better after leaving, however, i think that's normal...

i sent my thank you letter off today... had it printed out on hard copy to give to them but i just couldn't get over there today before the office closed so i emailed them... that's fine - i think they prefer email anyway.

I should find out tomorrow..... but they said if they're having difficulties in who they pick, i'd find out on monday at the latest.

keep hoping, wishing, thinking, praying, and all that good jazz for me.. i need all the good luck and karma i can get!

Until Next Time.......

Hmm... My harddrive started making an "i dont want to work anymore" noise at about 6:30 this morning.. i quickly turned it off and went to bed.. i woke up, turned on my computer, and it was still making that noise.. i figure it's time to backup - i threw in a spare 40Gig harddrive that i had kicking around and started copying my stuff over... since then the noise is gone - but at least all my movies, music, and photos are backed up.... Just a little reminder to you folks out there - you never have the option to back up AFTER a problem happens - so take an hour of your time and burn some CD's... you'll thank yourself (and me for reminding you) later..

OK... As for my previous post.. As some of you might know, I used to work at Humber College's residence as a front desk assistant. Since then, the manager of the desk moved on to become the next RLC (Rez Live Coordinator).. That means they need a new manager at the desk and for the buildings. I applied and expressed my strong interest in the final weeks that i worked there to the manager of the residence - Todd. We get along extremely well. He's a great guy and i loved working for him.

When the job was posted - i applied. That was 3 weeks ago. I was really down too because i've never had to wait that long for a call back before so i just assumed they didn't want me. After reading the job posting I was SURE they didn't want someone like me. The posting stated that they wanted someone with at least two years experience working in a school residence, a graduate from a Business or HR degree program, AND someone who has hotel managerial experience. I have NONE of that - but I applied anyway thinking "what the hell? worst they can say is no."

Well, I emailed my resume and cover letter, as well as a couple letters of reference to the HR department at the school. Those people dont know me from Joe on the street, so i also sent a copy of my application package to Todd - the rez manager.. I wasn't supposed to, but I figured the HR department probably wouldn't even look at me seeing as how i had none of the qualifications.

A ton of people applied... And it looks like my strategy worked They're interviewing 6 - and I'm one of the 6. WOOO HOOO!

I think these lines in my cover letter show that although i dont have the qualifications, i have the experience... As well as being just forward enough to show them that I'm brass enough (full of myself?) to handle a managerial role in that setting..

"For the last 14 months, I have worked as a Front Desk Assistant at the Humber College North Residence. In this time I have been exposed to the duties of the Front Desk Coordinator on a regular basis. I have been trusted by the Coordinator with such things as calculating and creating daily deposit forms, and writing disciplinary letters addressed to residents when she was not available to do so herself.

There are no better qualifications for a job than having direct experience with that job. This is what will make me stand out from all other applicants."

Anyway, my interview is on Wednesday at 2pm... Wish me luck! I'm going to need it...

Until Next Time......

D'oh!!!!

In the deal blunder of the last few years, back in 2000 Blockbuster Video had the opportunity to buy Netflix (the online dvd rental agency in the States) for $50 million.... but they passed and decided to go with a deal with Enron to provide video on demand to households in the US...

They cancelled the deal with Enron 9 months later... Enron died, and Netflix's value soared to over $1.4 Billion...

WOWZERS... who over at Blockbuster is hanging from their rafters now?

alright!
second post today..

one word: Serenity.

I saw the movie last weekend. And for someone who has never seen Firefly, i must say that I'm rather impressed... Great sci-fi flick, with a cute girl that can kick some MAJOR ass...

Patrick Norton, host of Digital Life TV, and former host of The Screen Savers - and current contributer of my favourite podcast - This Week in Tech (twit) said it best in episode 25 of Twit... And I quote:

"It was awesome. Heartbreaking. I laughed, i cried, it became a part of me. It was really good. As a matter of fact, I think Lucas should just go out and fall on his sword. He should just walk out the front of his house and go 'Wooooooww... Eight dollars and a recycled television program just spanked how many millions of dollars?' I mean, Lucas is making bank but i just want him to take a can of gasoline, sit in the middle of the presidio in front of all that land he wasted to move ILM closer to where people wanna live, and just light his ass on fire and apologize.

...But that's just me." - Patrick Norton

Bao, this post is for you...

He discussed on his blog not long ago that he was interested in knowing how people surfed to different blogs. I suggested using Firefox. Firefox allows you to open a series of specified websites all in their own "tabs".

For those of you who still use Internet Explorer (first of all, you will probably be the ones who always get infected with spyware and the like - i have no pity for you. lol).... so for those who still use IE, you probably dont know what a "Tab" is... well, quite simply, it is just a bunch of different windows for browsing, within one browser window...

Have you ever had 5 or 6 instances of IE open at once, and when you want to find the one you're looking for - you've gotta go to the bottom of the screen and click through until you find the one you're looking for. Well, what the tab does is only has *one* instance of Firefox open at one time, but places "tabs" at the top of the screen for each different website you go to...

that's not the best description to use - best way to understand is to try it. Firefox is free, some say it's faster, and it sure as hell LESS prone to spyware and viruses.

..... wow... ok, now to the real meat and potatoes of this post... "How do i open a bunch of sites in just one click?"

well, first of all.... bookmark all your websites that you want to go to..
then create a "folder" in your bookmarks, and shovel all of your bookmarked blogs into that folder.

Once you do that, a new link appears in that folder.... "Open in Tabs".... click it... it's that simple.

w00t - you just learned something new!

Until next time.......
