Watched Rocky Balboa today... Here's what I thought.. no real spoilers (on the spoiler scale from 1-5, i'd give these a 1), but if you're really passionate about not knowing a thing about the movie... dont read...
It was slow for the first half, but then again most of the Rocky's were (except 3 and 4, which threw in a couple extra fights).. I'm finding it tough to get by the idea that these movies aren't "action" movies... They're usually more of a drama, with a kick-ass action sequence to climax it off with... But I'm starting to understand that..
People are trying to tell me that Rocky has a new love interest in this movie. I didn't take it that way at all. I took it as Rocky simply having a friend, helping someone out, and giving back to the people in his community in the way that he's most able to in this point in his life. Go Rocco!
The fight was freakin' awesome.. so much so that I downloaded the movie tonite just to watch the fight again. In Rocky's own words in Part 3 "You know, you move pretty good for an older guy..." He looked to be in fantastic shape, for a near 60 year old.
The training montage was modest. But what do you expect from a guy that's 60? I didn't want him doing sit ups while hanging off of a balcony like he did in Rocky 4, but I needed something a little more than pushups on a basketball, and deadlifting about a bazillion pounds...
Final gripe? There's no Rocky statue outside the museum in Philly!!!! Like, come on!!! I'd have to watch the movie again to see if they mention why... but I was disappointed by that.. It's like Rocky was all but forgotten...
If you're a fan, you'll like this movie. It steals from part 1 quite a bit, but Rocky is older and more mature and wise now... nice to see him come full circle, with (apparently) much learned.
Until next time....... *I didn't hear no bell*
